In his book, “The Mystical Body,” Francis Chan presents a powerful understanding of theosis. In doing so, he clearly sets forth Chan's strong conviction that “theosis is a participation in the divine.” In fact, he says, theosis is participation in the divine and not just belief. I agree with him on this point. Belief is a much bigger step than theosis and it requires a whole lot more work on one's part. However, theosis is much closer to what I believe to be the true “osis.”
What does the mystical body really look like? How can we get in it? How do we become part of it? These are all fascinating questions that we need to pursue fully if we are to fully understand what theosis really means.
One of the most important things that I have come to learn as an aspiring monk is that there are many roads to salvation. This is something that Chan emphasizes in his work. He tells us that we should pursue all of them and not just one. For example, you can become a doctor or a lawyer or even a monk. But unless you have some major medical issues or some major legal issue, you probably won't find these things very attractive.
What if you fall ill and are unable to go on? If this were the case, what would your options are then? You can't just quit your job or sell your house or anything like that. So your first option would be to recover from the illness and to try and work out what you can. At this point, most people would say that they don't have much of a life, so the idea of recovering healthily and then trying to work at what is left of it seems not too appealing.
So what is your next step then? I think the best answer to that question will differ from person to person. Some people may take a long vacation, perhaps to see their family. There are those who may become very religious and devote their lives to God. Others may think about starting a business. In either case, I think that the most important thing is to remember that you are living and breathing life.
It's amazing how many people give up when they feel like they are spiritually dead. When you make a decision to live life, you become alive. I don't know if you know what the Greek word for this is, but it's Good. It's Good to Be Alive.
Being alive is a very powerful experience. Many people may choose to just let go and move on, but this is not a healthy way to live. The Christian Church makes it very easy for you to just lay down and die. If you choose to follow in the footsteps of the masters, then you may never again reach enlightenment, but the fruit of the vine can always be sown and enjoyed-living is a beautiful experience.
You are in charge of your destiny. You control your destiny. You have the power to live or you can die. If you choose to live, you have the choice of either going forward or going back. If you choose to go forward, then the fruit that you will reap will provide you with strength and courage to move forward in your life-your destiny is boundless.
When Paul and Luke stated that faith without action is dead, they were referring to our life. Our life is filled with choices. We can choose to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, or we can choose to live a materialistic, self-centered, egotistical life. But, one thing we do know for sure is that we can't choose our destiny.
God gave all of us free will to make the right choices, and we have the ability to do that right here, right now, right here on Earth. That's what's so great about healing arts. They give you the ability to break the circle of life and death. To see things clearly so you can create positive change. Because the world is sick and it needs healing. It's time for you to let it know that you will not go on living this way.
I have seen tremendous change in people's lives when I've done the healing arts. It is transformational. It helps you to see what's really important in your life and how you can better serve others. It gives you the courage you need to take bold steps forward in your life. So, if you have an opportunity to learn more about healing and the theology of healing, I strongly recommend it.
