Zion Theological seminary is a denomination of the Evangelical Protestant church
Located in Southwestern Pennsylvania, Zion theological seminary is a denomination of the Evangelical Protestant church. Established in 1790, the Zion Church was one of the first Christian sects to accept men's faith and embrace scripture as the supreme rule of life. As the years went on, the sect split into two, denominational churches, the Reformed and the Holiness Church. The latter still practices scripture and traditional worship. However, the Reformed view Jesus as Lord, while the Holiness Church emphasizes biblical obedience.
A great attraction for students at Zion are the many engaging ministries it sponsors and conducts. Among these are youth camps, bible studies, and youth ministry outreach events. In addition, Zions has many prominent and notable figures such as Dr. Henry Stokes, Dr. Arthur C. Scott, Dr. William J. Doyle, Rev. R. W. Sherrill, and Rev. T. A. McConkie.
The campus at Zion is laid back. The architecture is Colonial, with wood buildings and lots of windows. There are many beautiful trees, plants, and flowers on the campus. And there is the imposing tall minaret, the pride of the campus. The stained glass tower is an imposing sight.
The students at Zions are often very spiritual people. They have strong testimonies of testimonies and are inspired by God's truths. As they enter the seminary, they prepare for life as teachers and preaching ministers. When they leave, they have prepared a lifetime of ministry.
At Zions, graduates of the seminary take the same reverential attitude toward their superiors as they do toward their students. This is both a blessing and a curse. Because of the high regard for teachers and preaching ministers in the Orthodox community, Zions theological graduates frequently go on to become very accomplished and distinguished Orthodox rabbis and teachers.
The blessings include good positions in Orthodox institutions of learning and employment. The Orthodox Jewish community has produced some of the finest minds and leaders in the world. In addition, they make excellent employees. Many become prominent educators or teach at major Orthodox Jewish institutions – yes, they earn well! Graduates of Zions College also have opportunities outside the Orthodox Jewish community – teaching or serving in a top Orthodox institution, perhaps even at one of the many synagogues in America or Canada.
The curse goes unmentioned, however. A few's graduates have become drunkards, irresponsible adults, who caused so much trouble that their families had to seek legal help. And some students never even finished the course. They went from one “good” place to another, made excuses for their behavior, and then found a new “good” place to go when they were done. Some ended up in rehab.
A graduate of Zions, however, should not be compared to these individuals. Instead, Zions seminarians and students should aspire to develop a commitment to excellence in both their personal life and their professional life. Each student at Zions must be prepared to work hard and rise above circumstances that may prove to be adversity. They should be willing to make sacrifices for the sake of their students' academic success and personal development. At the same time, they should exhibit patience, determination, and kindness. These are characteristics that we, as a society, should hold in high regard.
In our modern world, with its focus on material comfort, many students find themselves wallowing in self-pity. A commitment to excellence and a sense of personal responsibility will help a student to grow into a person of dignity and strength. In Zions, students work together in the ministry and they enjoy the company of men and women of different talents and abilities. While at Zions, they also take part in Bible studies, prepare manuscripts for publication, and attend seminary conferences. In all, the intellectual community of Zions is alive and well.
Zions is home to the Bethel Aiding Ministry, which has an interfaith ministry to bring people from many walks of life to Christ. This ministry has helped many people to realize their goals of becoming Christians. Through the ministry, students learn to become spiritual beings. Their journey to this level of spiritual awareness is gradual and requires patience and persistence. As they come closer to God, there will be a growth in strength and knowledge.
If you are preparing to enter into the Bethel Seminary, prepare yourself for intense Biblical study. Prepare for rigorous classes in theology, history and early Christianity. Prepare to spend time daily in class and while at home reading God's Word. You can count on Zions to help you have a fulfilling academic career.
